Acorn Class

Dear Parents and Guardians

I hope you had a fantastic summer and have had lots of fun. This term we will be focusing on settling into school life.  Often after an extended time off, children will need time to readjust to the school routine.

The Acorns classroom will be open from 8:45, use the side gate to enter the classroom. Children who are staying a full stay should be picked up from the main playground at 3:15. We want to encourage children to be as independent as possible; therefore children should be prompted to do the following jobs:

  1. Hang their coats/bags on their pegs
  2. Put their water bottle on the side
  3. To put their diaries on the step
  4. To self-register
  5. To complete an individual activity as directed, this will usually be found in their Busy Books. We will encourage you to support your child whilst doing this activity.

Once your child has finished this routine it will be time to say goodbye. Please ensure that your child is aware when you will be leaving the classroom.

Please be aware that this routine is not set in stone and may take time for your child to master and the first week or so may be rather traumatic for everyone! This is normal J I will be available to discuss any concerns or worries you have, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

Children in Acorns will have access to a wide range of activities. This will include PE that will be taught by a specialised teacher- PE kits are required; you can find a kit list on the website or speak to a member of staff if you have any questions. Please ensure that your child is equipped with wellington boots and a waterproof jacket as we will be going outside regularly for outdoor learning opportunities. I recommend that PE kits and wellington boots are left in school when possible.

Please can you ensure all uniform, PE kit and equipment are clearly labelled.

Everyday your child will need to bring the following items to school:

A water bottle

A change of underwear

Diary

Please note do not encourage your child to bring in toys, they will often get lost, left behind or broken L.  We will however have special days for Show and Tell J .

For children staying the full day, please note that you will need to pick up your child from the main playground. This includes nursery and reception children. Please use the side gate to access the playground for 3:15.

As there is a lot of information and new routines I am proposing that we have a brief meeting on Monday 11th September straight after school in Acorns classroom.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Mansfield   l.mansfield@wvpschools.org
