Acorn Class

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you have had a good rest and are ready to start the Summer Term.  We are looking forward to learning about being in the rainforest as part of our topic work. We will be using our imaginations to travel to the Jungle and learn what wildlife we can find and how to survive.   We will be reading  Kipling’s account of The Jungle Book and Tarzan.

Nursery Children Joining This Term

For children who are joining this term our priority is to make the transition as smooth as possible and we understand this can take time.  Nursery children will have the opportunity to work on focused objectives and play in smaller groups (with peers of the same age) or individually with a range of activities.  We encourage our Reception children to be excellent role models in helping younger children settle.

Reception Children reading and phonics

Please continue to record any home reading in your child’s diary so that we can change books. You can support your child’s comprehension through asking simple questions about the book which will support your child’s literacy skills.  There are many online games that can help your child with phonics and reading skills such as;

We will continue to use the Maths Mastery Approach to aid our children’s understanding of number to develop keen and competent mathematicians! When using Mastery Maths at home it is not a case of necessarily working with bigger quantities  ( or numerals) but ensuring that your child understands how simple operations work through lots of verbal and practical activities.  If you would like any ideas of how to apply this method at home please let me know.  This term we will be focusing on measuring and sharing quantities.

 PE  and Outdoor Learning

PE kits will be required to be in school every day, please can you ensure that your child has suitable footwear as the PE Team may increasingly use outdoor spaces.  PE will continue to be on a Monday morning.  Nursery Children have the opportunity to participate in PE with Miss Hardy supporting the younger children.  For Nursery children starting Reception in September, it may be good practise for these children bring a PE kit to change into.  I understand that some nursery children are already changing into a PE kit and this is fantastic!

Sun Cream

It is advisable on hot days (which will come!) that your child already comes to school with sun cream applied.  You can purchase sun cream which lasts over 12 hours which will be appropriate for school.

Equipment Needed in School

A list of items that your child will need every day:

Communication Book

Water bottle

PE kit to be kept in school

Reading books

Spare clothes and underwear (wipes if necessary)

Kind Regards,

Mrs Mansfield
