Acorn Class

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that you have had a good start to the New Year. This term we will be learning about animals; a topic the children are keen to pursue. To support our learning, we will be planning a few local walks to observe the wildlife nearest to the school.  The children have also been keen to create a zoo role play area amongst other ideas linked to animals.

PE: This term PE will be taught by Mr Hopkinson on a Wednesday, but please ensure your child has their PE kit in school every day in case this day changes.

Tapestry update: I trust that you have all had time to go on Tapestry. If you are still having problems or have not had any communication from school, please let me know. We will have rewards for any parents who engage in posting photos of their child’s learning at home.

Reading Daily: We encourage reading every day, this does not need to be a struggle for either of you, it can be a joint effort or simply a time when your child listens to a story at the end of the day or alternatively were your child tells you a story. All of these options are highly recommended in building up a love of stories. Please can you record any reading achieved at home in the diaries. Thank you to those who continuously make these records, they are very important.

Phonics and handwriting: This term we plan to start phase 3. A letter mat will be sent home to explain all of the sounds which the children will be using. We encourage the children to use a letter mat to remind them of how to spell a particular sound. At this stage it is normal for your child to spell words phonetically. We will also be learning how to form letters correctly and cursively, letter grids will be sent out so that if you like, you can practise at home.

Maths and Mastery: We continue to apply the mastery approach to our mathematics. For those of you who were able to come along to the share morning you would have seen how we apply this to our number knowledge. Over this half term we will be focusing on quantities 6 to 10.

It is also useful for your child to have a change of clothes and spare underwear. We will also be going outside to enjoy our outdoor space in all weathers so please pack your child’s hat and gloves.

Nursery Parents: Please remember that if your child is entitled to 30 hours funding you must renew your application each half term. This is done electronically via the portal, please see Mrs Hart or Mrs Mansfield for more details.

We also have Stay and Play Sessions which you are welcome to attend, please see the poster for more details.
